While Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) Volunteer Resources completes the operational functions of these programs, CCIVA provides the fiscal support to ensure these unique patient programs are available for the patients at Cross Cancer Institute (CCI).

Patient and Family Resource Centre (PFRC)
The Patient and Family Resource Centre (PFRC) is available to all patients, visitors, and staff at the CCI to access reliable resources. Whether it is print material or a book you want to sign out, this is your one stop for all resources and supports!
The PFRC also conducts New Patient Orientations. We recommend contacting our PFRC volunteers to book your Orientation, either in person or via ZOOM.
Pet Therapy
CCI Volunteer Resources partners with 2 trusted organizations to bring therapy dogs to the waiting rooms and patients at the CCI. This beloved program features some very cute furry companions.

Radiation Oncology Pediatric Mask Painting
An extremely talented volunteer paints the radiation masks for pediatric patients to ensure they feel a sense of comfort when receiving treatment. CCIVA provides funding for these supplies.
Refreshment Cart
Our popular Refreshment Cart is our longest standing program. While it has gone through many names over the years, the goal remains the same....providing free beverages and light snacks to patients and visitors throughout the CCI facility. The little treat helps brighten someone's day.
Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday, 9:00-11:00 am and 1:00-3:00 pm depending on volunteer availability.
Van Shuttle Program
CCIVA funds the van shuttle program to get patients who are staying at approved accommodations to and from their appointments at the CCI between 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.
The Approved CCI Accommodation List is compiled by CCI Volunteer Resources and updated regularly. Please email the Volunteer Resources team for the current list, registration, or information.

Wayfinding
You can find our Wayfinding volunteers throughout the CCI wearing burgundy vests. They are a key part of the CCI team.
Wayfinders can assist with:
Finding appointment areas,
Pushing patients in their wheelchairs,
Assisting with questions, or
Social interactions.
Wig Salon
Our Wig Salon offers a wig lending program to CCI patients experiencing hair loss as a result of their treatment. We also offer head shaves as part of our service.
CCI patients are welcome to come and try on a wig to see if it is what they are looking for. The Wig Salon is a volunteer-run, donation-based program so there is no cost associated with using the program. We don't want cost to be a barrier to patients wanting to look and feel their best! Come check out the assortment of wigs we have and meet our amazing volunteers.
